About us

Built in Durban North for local businesses, clubs and schools

EMB Designs started with a simple idea: local organisations need branded clothing and promo items that arrive on time, look sharp and hold up to daily wear. Since 2008, we have focused on embroidery and print work for companies, schools, sports clubs and community groups across Durban North and eThekwini, including Umhlanga, La Lucia, Mount Edgecombe, Westville, Pinetown, Hillcrest and Ballito.

Our base in Durban North makes it easier to support clients who need quick communication and practical turnaround times, especially when uniforms are needed for a launch, event, school term or staff rollout. We understand coastal conditions too, from humidity that affects storage to load-shedding that can interrupt planning, so we keep our production approach organised and clear.

What we do in-house from artwork to dispatch

We keep the key steps under one roof so your order stays consistent from the first artwork check to the final packing. That means we can review your logo, prepare digitising, choose the right print or stitch method, and move the job through production without unnecessary handovers. It also helps us spot issues early, such as low-resolution artwork, small lettering or colours that will not read well on fabric.

Our service range covers the practical branding needs most organisations ask for, whether that is a handful of caps or a bulk order of golf shirts and corporate wear. For urgent jobs, we can also look at rush orders and sample runs when the brief is clear and the stock is available.

  • Logo digitising for embroidery
  • Embroidery on golf shirts, caps and uniforms
  • Screen printing and heat press printing
  • Cap branding and promotional item printing
  • Uniform packs, bulk orders and rush orders
  • Artwork checks, sample runs, packing and delivery

How our team keeps orders moving

Our team is structured so each part of the job is handled by someone who knows that stage well. Sibusiso Mthembu leads the business as Managing Director, while Nokuthula Dlamini oversees production. Jason Naidoo handles digitising, Anele Khumalo looks after sales support, Priya Govender leads the print room and Morne van Zyl coordinates dispatch. That kind of clear responsibility matters when orders are time-sensitive and details have to be right the first time.

We are not interested in overcomplicating things. Clients send through their brief, we confirm the garment or item, check the artwork and advise on what will work best for the finish and budget. If something needs adjusting, we say so plainly and sort it out before production starts. It saves time, and it avoids disappointment later on.

The values we bring to every branding job

We believe good service is built on accuracy, honesty and steady communication. A polo shirt with clean embroidery on the chest, a school cap with balanced stitching, or a set of printed shirts for a staff event all need the same basic things: correct artwork, the right method and careful handling through production. That is the standard we work to every day.

Our clients come to us because they want a supplier who understands that branded items are often tied to deadlines, budgets and how a business or school is seen in public. We keep our process practical, and we do our best to make sure the result looks professional without pushing unnecessary extras.

  • Clear advice before production starts
  • Consistent quality across repeat orders
  • Careful handling of logos, colours and sizing
  • Reliable packing for collection or delivery
  • Flexible support for small runs and bulk quantities

Why digitising matters for a cleaner finish

Embroidery starts with digitising, and that step makes a bigger difference than many people realise. A logo that is set up properly will stitch cleaner, stay readable and wear better over time. If the file is rushed or poorly prepared, the finished item can lose shape, especially on textured fabric or smaller garments where space is tight.

Because we handle digitising in-house, we can make adjustments based on the fabric, the size of the logo and the item being branded. A cap, for example, needs a different approach from a golf shirt or a heavier work shirt. The same applies to print work, where we look at garment colour, placement and how the artwork will sit on the fabric after washing and regular use.

Working with clients across eThekwini and beyond

We regularly assist businesses and organisations in Durban North, Umhlanga, Westville, Pinetown, Ballito, La Lucia, Mount Edgecombe and Hillcrest, and we are set up to handle enquiries from across the wider region. Some clients need a small batch for a team, while others need uniform packs for a larger rollout. Either way, the process stays the same: confirm the brief, check the artwork, agree on the finish and keep the order moving.

We also understand that timing can be affected by school calendars, municipal events, coastal weather and last-minute staff changes. That is why our optional 24-hour turnaround is useful for certain urgent jobs, as long as the order details are final and the stock is available. Clients reach us through the enquiry form on our contact page, and from there we take it step by step.

For us, being local is not just about location. It means knowing what clients in Durban actually need, and delivering work that is practical, tidy and ready to wear.
